5. Pathway to Adult Cricket

Pathway & Expectations from Junior to Senior Cricket

  • We look to introduce our junior players into senior adult cricket at the right time, ensuring that it is safe and enjoyable for both the child and the club.
  • Varying availability week on week will dictate how many juniors get games every week and selection will differ across Saturdays, Sundays and midweek.
  • Saturday cricket caters for a wide range of abilities, with three league teams plus a friendly side.
  • Sunday cricket is friendlies only and is often a great starting point for young cricketers to become accustomed to adult cricket in a social setting.
  • Midweek cricket consists of both competitive and friendly T20s, plus some friendly afternoon games.
  • Additional friendlies may be arranged depending on availability.

With this in mind it is key you let your age group coach know if you have a desire to play senior cricket in the coming season and key periods you may/may not be available. This allows the club to gauge how many friendly fixtures feel viable.

When do juniors start to play senior cricket?

In short when they are mature and good enough to do so!

The age group for starting to play senior cricket has historically been U14s and upwards – this has evolved based on the child’s strength, ability and independence. We may also try to accommodate some U13s if safe and practical to do so.

There are safeguarding issues that both parents and the club need to be fully aware of as set out in our club rules and policies. If you are considering senior cricket please speak to your age group coach first!

Please remember that on occasion we may also need to rotate people to share the development.

How do you register your interest to be considered for senior cricket?

Registering your interest is fairly simple - first talk to your age group coach! Then we will make you known to the senior selection committee.

How do I set my availability?

Ensure you are registered on Pitchero and then if the selection committee or your age group coach decides you are ready for senior cricket, you will be assigned to be a member of the relevant XI where appropriate.

Once you are a member of any of these squads, you will be able to set your availability for the weekend via Pitchero. Please do this by Monday evening at the latest so that we can try to arrange additional fixtures if required.

Selection and notification of teams will be published via Pitchero on Wednesday where possible. You must then confirm you have recognised your selection on Pitchero so that the selection committee know you are aware that you’re playing!

If you need to drop out on rare occasions you must ring the team captain making him aware as soon as you can. Please note that due to team changes, even if you are not originally selected places may become available up to and including the morning of the games.

The best way to get yourself selected is to make yourself available as often as you can on both Saturdays and Sundays. There is no guarantee, but this gives the selection committee more options. You stand more chances of selection on either both or one of the days.
